Opening Doors to Countless Opportunities

August 10, 2025

Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

This week, South Carolina celebrated the resurgence of manufacturing in our state—from Century Aluminum’s $50 million investment in Berkeley County to the ribbon-cutting of the Savannah River National Laboratory’s Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative (AMC) in Aiken. These milestones reflect a strong commitment to innovation, economic growth, and job creation. The new AMC facility will serve as a cutting-edge hub for modernizing manufacturing processes, solidifying South Carolina’s role as a national leader in the future of American industry!

Opening Doors to Countless Opportunities

Access to reliable high-speed internet is no longer a luxury – it's an economic necessity. The $218,000 cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Project with the Hampton Country Government will help bridge the digital divide and ensure our rural communities have the connectivity they need to compete in the 21st century economy.

Sharing the #SCSweetTea

It is a proud and historic moment for Charleston as Shannon Verastequi becomes the city’s first female Postmaster in over 250 years of postal history! With nearly three decades of dedicated service, Ms. Verastequi embodies the leadership, integrity, and commitment to community that define public service at its best. I congratulate her on this well-earned achievement and look forward to the continued impact of her service. Read the full story here.

By Ana Teresa Solá

A Senate committee approved a major housing bill this week, with a range of provisions that could make it easier for people to buy a home.

On Tuesday, the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs unanimously voted to advance the Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream to Housing Act of 2025, which aims to increase the supply of affordable housing.

The bill sponsored by Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., chairman of the committee, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., a ranking member, is the first bipartisan markup for housing in over a decade.
