Here's the info on our speaker next Tuesday.  If you can think of anyone or group that may be interested please send this notice to them.  We are having Dr Carrie Tiepel speak on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), aka Obmama Care, at our Republican Party of Poquoson City Committee meeting on 4 September at 7:00 PM at the Poquoson Community Center, 49 Odd Rd, Poquoson, VA (towards the front of the High School entrance). Dr Triepel has become a popular, passionate, and captivating speaker and opponent of the PPACA. Her recent appearances have included the Hampton Tea Party, VA Beach Republican Club breakfast, Williamsburg Tea Party, with other engagements scheduled. She's an orthopedic surgeon with over 13 year of medical experience and practices in Orthopaedic Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery of the Hand. She is also a mother of four kids all under the age of 10, so we really appreciate her taking time out her busy schedule to speak to us.

We are also opening the meeting up to the general public so we are hoping to be able to greet her with a crowd worthy of her time. An RSVP is not being required but we would appreciate an approximate houd count estimate a three days before the meeting if you can.

The agenda is as follows:

7:00 PM-7:15 PM, probably shorter - An abbreviated Republican Party of Poquoson City Committee (RPPCC) Meeting.  Will discuss & solicit RPPCC members and general audience for volunteers at the Seafood Festival Republican Booth; will ask for volunteers at our three Republican precincts booths on election day; will discuss poll watchers program (briefly) and see if there is any interest among meeting audience; will notify members and audience of October's meeting date , location, and topic; and will ask for a motion to adjourn meeting to October, adjourn meeting for speakers.

7:15 - 7:30 PM - Delegate Rob Bell, a Conservative Republican Candidate for Attorney General

7:30 - to 8:00, or longer for Q&A -  Dr Carrie Triepel

If time and audience permits - additional time for Delegate Bell Q&A

York County wins three NACo Achievement Awards

FOR RELEASE AT WILL

York County is pleased to have been recognized with three Achievement Awards granted by the National Association of Counties for various county programs and initiatives.
"It is quite an honor to be recognized on the national level for programs that county staff has created and implemented," said County Administrator James O. McReynolds. "County employees work very hard to serve the citizens of York, and these awards are recognition of a job well done."
The following are programs that won Achievement Awards this year, and attached are pictures of county staff accepting those awards and congratulations for Board of Supervisors Chairman Tom Shepperd. For more information on these award-winning programs, please contact the Public Information Office at 890-3300.

County News Minute
In an attempt to capture the attention of today's citizen, deliver fast and easy-to-understand messages, and save staff time in the process, the York County Public Information Office, working cooperatively with the Video Services Division, developed the "County News Minute."
These brief informational video segments are shown on the county's cable channel and YouTube channel and spotlight county programs, initiatives or services. Filmed on location, these segments deliver a clear, concise message, and take minor staff time to film and edit. In today's fast paced world, these segments quickly inform citizens about county programs and events, and are an extension of the county's communications program.

Automated Storm Surge Look-Up Tool
As residents of this area are all too aware, York County is a "hurricane risk locality" faced with dealing with the impacts and effects of hurricanes during Atlantic Hurricane Season. To help citizens prepare for a potential hurricane, staff developed an "automated look-up tool" for storm surge zone risk determination. This tool is a simple, easy-to-use, automated method for citizens to determine their property's hurricane storm surge zone.
The tool consists of a link off of the county website to a .pdf street index file that includes the storm surge zone for every address in the county. The user simply has to click on the established link on the website, go to the "find" section on the document and then enter his or her address. The search will take them directly to their address listing and indicate their storm surge level.
The website address for this tool is www.yorkcounty.gov/fire. Select "York County Storm Surge Zones."

Don't Be A Drip Water Management Program
The county's Department of General Services initiated a water management program to reduce the overall use of water by utilizing technology, improving design and applying best management practices for installing, modifying and maintaining county and school division irrigation systems.
Under this water management program, the Department of General Services began a program of converting manual hydraulic-type irrigation control boxes to digital controls with rain sensors, using technology to ensure the beneficial use of water and improving designs for current and future irrigation installations. The program's technology-based operations have resulted in considerable cost savings in terms of water costs, sod replacement costs (due in the past to overwatering), and costs associated with staff once required to manually assist with irrigation activities.

Once in a Blue Moon library fine amnesty Aug. 26-31

August 22, 2012

FOR RELEASE AT WILL

The York County Public Library is sponsoring the Once in a Blue Moon Fine Amnesty Program to encourage patrons to return overdue materials.
From Aug. 26 through Aug. 31, late fines will be waived on all books, DVDs, CDs and other items. Simply bring your overdue items and your library card to the Circulation desk to have the fine waived. The Once in a Blue Moon Fine Amnesty Program does not apply to charges for lost or damaged items.
"This is a once in a blue moon opportunity for fines to be forgiven," said Kevin Smith, York County Public Library Director. "We have about 1,700 items overdue. When you return your overdue items, you ensure that everyone has access to the excellent books, DVDs and other items the library has to offer. I am surprised to hear that some patrons do not return items because of the fines they have accrued. Hopefully now the items will be returned."
The Once in a Blue Moon Fine Amnesty Program coincides with the astronomical blue moon occurring on Aug. 31. Both the blue moon and the library waiving fines are rare occurrences.
For more information, visit www.yorkcounty.gov/library or contact the Tabb Library at 890-5120 or the Yorktown Library at 890-5207. Visit the Tabb Library at 100 Long Green Blvd., Yorktown, VA 23693 or the Yorktown Library at 8500 George Washington Memorial Hwy., Yorktown, VA 23692.
