Dear Patriot,

On October 27, 1964, the Barry Goldwater campaign aired on television a pre-recorded speech by an actor named Ronald Reagan. According to his memoirs, Reagan recalled going to sleep that night hoping he hadn't let Goldwater down, but, in fact, his speech, "A Time for Choosing," came to define Conservatism for a generation and launched the political career of the man who would become the greatest President of the 20th century.

In 1964, America faced record deficit spending, the expansion of government programs, and a Click to watch Sen. Marco Rubio's speech at Reagan Library-Aug. 23, 2011President who wanted to increase the already burdensome tax rates on the American people. Ronald Reagan boldly articulated a scathing indictment against the policies of the left, while at the same time laying out the Conservative principles that would eventually become the platform for the Reagan Revolution, defining what it means to be Conservative for the next 45+ years.

"You and I are told increasingly that we have to choose between a left or right, but I would like to suggest that there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down—up to a man's age-old dream; the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism, and regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course," Reagan said.

On Tuesday evening this week, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) gave a speech, fittingly, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. America faces challenges even in excess of what Reagan's America faced in 1964 under President Johnson's government expansion, and Rubio delivered an equally scathing speech against the liberal vision for America, and articulated a vision of Conservatism that may very well last another 45 years. "Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about allowing people to catch up," he said.

"The free enterprise system does not leave people behind. People are poor and people are left behind because they do not have access to the free enterprise system, because something in their lives or in their community has denied them access to the free enterprise system."

If you haven't watched the speech, I encourage you to watch Sen. Marco Rubio's speech now.

I don't know if Marco Rubio will ever run for anything other than the Senate seat he now holds, but that doesn't make this speech any less poignant, or any less historic. And at the end of the speech, Rubio fielded questions from the audience. One question he received was, "If you could give the Tea Party one idea or topic for them to focus on, what would it be?" His answer says it all:  "I think they are focused on it, and that’s the proper role of government in America."

Sign new petition to stop the spending spree now!And we will continue to focus on rolling government back to its proper role. One way to do that is to force government to live within its means, to balance its budget, and to scale back wasteful and duplicative government programs. Using our state-of-the-art petition system, we've sent over 900,000 letters to our elected representatives urging them to support "We the People!" As part of our effort to restore the proper role of government, we're launching a new petition to tell Congress to Stop the Spending! We're confident this will be our most successful petition yet--you can use our petition system to contact your elected representatives and tell them to force the government to live within its means!

A contribution is not necessary to participate, but your generous donations allow us to continue to offer this service free-of-charge to patriots all across the country.

Sincerely,

Todd Cefaratti
